Mrs. Etta Mertz Died Tuesday

Mrs. Etta Francis Mertz died at six o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Floyd DeSeelhorst, a mile west of Grundy Center. She had been an invalid more than a year following a stroke at her home in Grundy Center. She suffered a second stroke a few days before her death.

Funeral services are being held Thursday morning at 9:30 at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Grundy Center with Rev. Fr. J. A. Kress officiating. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Mrs. Mertz would have been 78 years old had she lived until the 3rd of next month. She was a daughter of John and Anna Condon. She was born at Lakefield, Minn., Sept. 3rd, 1872, and she grew to womanhood there.

On November 24th, 1895, she and Elmer Mertz were married at Lakefield. Shortly there after they moved to Grundy Center and this remained their permanent home.

Mrs. Mertz was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church in Grundy Center. She was an active member of St. Martha's Society and she was a past president of the Grundy Center Legion Auxiliary.

The husband died eleven years ago on January 20th. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Floyd DeSeelhorst; two sons, Raymond E., Grundy Center, and Arthur J., of Minneapolis. Other surviving relatives are a brother, John Condon, Saskatoon, Canada; two sisters: Mrs. Margaret Downey, Fulda, Minn., and Mrs. Edwin Davis, Madelia, Minn.
