Heart Attack Ends Long Life For H. C. Buffington

H. C. Buffington passed away quietly at his home Sunday evening at 10:45 p.m. of a heart attack. He had been troubled with a heart affliction for the past couple of years but was apparently in no worse condition at the time of his death than usual. Mr. Buffington had been about his usual duties all day and the family was visiting with friends who had come to call at the time he was stricken. A physician was called immediately but all that could be done was relieve him.

H. C. (Cab) Buffington was born December 16, 1865, in Maryland. He was married to Mame Freezer in Mt. Carroll, Ill., on May 22, 1890, where they lived for four years. In 1894 they moved to Morrison and a year later took up residence in the home they are now living in. He farmed with his father near Morrison and later farmed the place now owned by Bob Miller. He later built roads in this vicinity for a number of years. He also ran a store and restaurant. In 1931 Mrs. Buffington received the appointment as postmaster and Mr. Buffington acted as her assistant for the next 15 years at which time they both retired. Several years ago he was the one to put through the rural route out of this post office. He was also active in politics and the Woodman Lodge. All his life he has been an ambitious man and at the time of his death was taking care of a large garden and looking after a number of things around the home.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, one daughter, Bernice Mulder, of Morrison, one granddaughter, Kathryn Mulder of Iowa Falls, one sister, Mrs. Emma Drenner of Freeport, Ill., who is 92 years old, and a host of friends who will miss him greatly. One sister and two brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Buffington celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 22, 1950, with open house to their closest friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Morrison. The services were conducted by Rev. Haupt. Burial was in the Morrison cemetery.
