William J. Soska, 89 of Reinbeck, Iowa passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Park View Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday May 1, 2012 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery with military rites being conducted by the Reinbeck American Legion Action Post #242. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, with a Masonic service being conducted by the Masonic Coin Lodge # 394 at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Bill was born on October 8, 1922 in rural Hudson, Iowa, the son of John and Bessie (Kadrmas) Soska. He was raised in rural Hudson and graduated from Hudson High School with the class of 1940. Bill also graduated from the Waterloo Business School. He was united in marriage to Helen Kubik on November 29, 1945 in Traer, Iowa. Bill served his country in the United States Army from 1946 until 1947. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Iowa and began farming near Voorhies, Iowa. Bill and Helen welcomed three children into their family. The couple moved to Reinbeck in 1976.

Bill was a 50 year member of the Masonic Coin Lodge #394, having risen to the 32nd degree. He was also a member of the Reinbeck American Legion and longtime member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ. Bill enjoyed playing cards, golfing, dancing and watching baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs. He especially loved the long car rides he would take on Sunday afternoons with his family.

Bill is survived by his daughters Nancy (Phil) Lauterbach of Reinbeck, Kate Soska of Iowa City; grandchildren, Andy Lauterbach, Bret (Jill) Lauterbach and Ross (Amanda) Soska; great-grandchildren, Kyle Koppen, Lohgan Lauterbach and Mason Soska, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, son John and brothers Wes and Frank Soska.
