Grundy Man Dies At Ellsworth
Remains Were Brought to Grundy County for Interment Monday
Harm Meester, formerly of Grundy county, died at his home in Ellsworth, Minn., at ten o'clock last Sunday night. Old age was largely responsible for his death. He was confined to his bed for but one week. He came to Grundy county only a few weeks ago to attend the funeral of his sister, Mrs. C. H. Nederhoff, living at Wellsburg.
The remains were sent here and they arrived Monday evening and were taken to the home of a son, Joe Meester, of Palermo township. Services were held at Drake's church in Colfax township Tuesday afternoon. Interment was made at the cemetery adjoining that church.
Mr. Meester was eighty years and a few months old. He was born in Germany. He came to this country when he was sixteen years old and located near Freeport, Ill. He was married there and shortly after that he and his wife came to Grundy county and bought a farm in Colfax township. That was about fifty-three years ago. The family resided there until thirty years ago when they moved to Ellsworth, Minn., where they resided up to the time of Mr. Meester's death. Mr. Meester was twice married. His first wife died thirty-three years ago. The second wife survives him.
The surviving children, all of whom are from the first marriage, are as follows: Johannes Meester of Palermo township, Aike from Ellsworth, John from Brookings, S.D., Mrs. Dick Meyer of Grundy Center and Dan from Ellsworth. One step-son, Eilert Prus, lives in Colfax township. Aside from his wife and children, Mr. Meester is survived by his brothers, Dan, of Pleasant Valley township, Henry of Colfax township, and Jacob, who lives in Parkersburg. His only sister, Mrs. Nederhoff, died a few weeks ago.
