Ralph M. Carstedt was born July 5, 1889 at Mendota, Ill., and departed this life at Albion, Iowa, August 1, 1923, aged 34 years and 27 days.
Mr. Carstedt came to Iowa in 1902 in company with his grandfather, Josiah B. Klinefelter, locating in Conrad. For a number of years he made his home with his grandparents. He was the only child of Mrs. Maggie (Klinefelter) Carstedt who died when he was seven years of age. His father was Mr. Chas. Carstedt of Worthington, Minn.
On the eleventh day of November, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Pearl Rhinesmith, of Ivester. To this union three children were born.
For a number of years the deceased and wife made their home in Calhoun county and then later returned to Grundy county. During the year of 1922 he was a resident of Marshalltown, Iowa, early in the spring of the present year he moved his family to a farm about 3 1/2 miles northwest of Albion where he resided at the time of his death.
Surviving are the grief stricken wife, the children, Ray, 11, Margaret, 8, and Keith, 4; his father, Chas. Carstedt, two half-sisters and two half-brothers. The half-sisters, Mrs. Harold Stone and Miss Hula Carstedt, and the half-brothers, Donald and Volney, live at Worthington, Minn. Besides there is a large circle of relatives and acquaintances who mourn the loss of a dear friend.
Funeral services were conducted in the Alice Church of God Bethel, Rev. Cyrus A. Byler, Ph. B., officiating. Interment in the Alice Union Cemetery on his grandfather's lot.

Ralph Carstead passed away at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown, at 4:30 Wednesday morning, August 3rd, burial at the Alice cemetery. Rev. C. A. Byler will have charge of the services that will be held at the Alice church at 10:00 o'clock tomorrow, Friday morning. Mr. Carstead is well known here, having spent a number of years with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Klinefelter, a number of years ago. He leaves his wife and three children, Ray, 11 years; Margaret, 8; and Keith, 4.
Death came very suddenly as he had not been ailing until shortly before taken to the hospital where he underwent an operation for inflammation of the bowels, but upon examination it was decided that his condition was beyond recovery. He was 33 years and 26 days of age at the time of his death. He was married in Eldora 11 years ago to Miss Pearl Rhinesmith.
