Mrs. Henry Snittjer Dies In Home

Mrs. Henry Snittjer died Sunday forenoon at the Oakview nursing home at Conrad. She was in failing health during the past year, during which time she was afflicted with cancer. She was 85 years old.

The body was brought to the Engelkes funeral home in Grundy Center, where arrangements were made. Services will be held in the Methodist church in Grundy Center Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Harold Sparks will be the officiating pastor. Burial will be in Colfax church cemetery.

Mrs. Snittjer was born Nov. 11, 1878, in Lee county, Ill. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Clifford. The year after her birth the family moved to a farm near Morrison, where she grew to womanhood. She taught a rural school before her marriage. March 18, 1903, she and Henry Snittjer were married. The ceremony was performed by the late Rev. J. E. Drake, pastor for many years at the Colfax church. The couple resided in and around Grundy Center during all of their married life. During the time that his wife was in the nursing home he resided with his daughter at Cedar Falls.

The couple had three children. One of them, a son, Vernon, died in a Japanese prison in the Philippines in 1943. The surviving children are Mrs. Ted Alberts of Cedar Falls and Calvin, Allison. There are 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
