George J. Geerdes Rites Wednesday At Shiloh Church

Funeral services were held today (Wed.) for George J. Geerdes, 84, of Steamboat Rock at 1 p.m. at the family home and at the First Christian Reformed church at 1:30 p.m. Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church. Rev. B. Visscher officiated at the services.

Mr. Geerdes passed away Sunday evening about 8 p.m. at his home from the infirmities of old age.

Mr. Geerdes was born on June 24, 1880 in Grundy county. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Geerdes. He received his schooling in the Pine Creek school.

On March 3, 1904 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Riekena. Eight children were born to this union. They farmed in Hardin county and moved to Steamboat about twenty-seven years ago where they have lived since.

Mr. Geerdes was a member of the First Christian Ref. church.

Mr. and Mrs. Geerdes were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on March 3 of this year.

Surviving are the widow, also eight children: Bessie, Mrs. Evert Bleeker, Steamboat Rock; Mrs. Abe Wilts of Ackley; Frieda, Mrs. George W. Harms of Steamboat Rock; Jake G. Geerdes of Wellsburg; Edward Geerdes of Ackley; Alfred Geerdes of Gladbrook. Two sisters who survive are Mrs. Gertie Neessen of Tipton and Mrs. Alice Riekena of Wellsburg, also one brother Albert Geerdes of Wellsburg. There are also 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who survive.

The deceased was preceded by his parents and one grandchild.
