Mrs. Martha Harms Died On Saturday Funeral Tuesday

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 29 at 12:30 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and later at the First Christian Ref. church. Rev. Bernard Visscher officiated. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

A men's quartet, Richard Schafer, Larry Riebkes, Melvin Haupt, and Arnold Eiten sang accompanied by Miss Doris Haupt. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Henry C. Nederhoff and Mrs. Harm A. Rust. Pall bearers were Merle Christians, August Ascher Jr., Edwin Ascher, Leslie Harms, Kenneth Harms and Arnold Harms.

Mrs. Martha Harms, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edde Christians, was born on the farm southwest of Wellsburg in Shiloh township on January 9, 1906. She attended the Pine Creek school and was throughout her life an attendant at the First Christian Reformed church of Wellsburg, in which she made profession of her faith in Christ on January 20, 1929.

She reached the age of 58 years, 11 months, 17 days. On December 5, 1934, she was united in marriage with Marlin Harms at the home of her parents. They lived for one year with his parents, and then moved to a farm near Whitten where they lived for seven years. In 1943 they moved to a farm near Steamboat Rock, and lived there until they moved to their present home southeast of Wellsburg in 1955.

To them were born two children; a son, Gerald Harms of Hull, Iowa; and a daughter, Angeline, Mrs. LeRoy Luhring of Holland. She passed away very suddenly at her home on Saturday evening December 26, at 7:30 in the presence of her husband.

Those who preceded her in death were: her parents, and one brother and one sister in infancy. Those who survive to mourn her passing include her husband, Marlin Harms, Grundy Center; one son, Gerald of Hull and one daughter, Angeline, Mrs. LeRoy Luhring of Holland; five grandchildren; one sister, Anna, Mrs. August Ascher Sr. of Wellsburg, two brothers Arend Christians of Wellsburg and Chris Christians of Steamboat Rock as well as many other relatives and friends.
