Boelman Funeral Held On Monday
Mrs. Hattie Boelman died at the nursing home in Aplington on Thursday, Oct. 1st. Her health began to fail a few months ago and she was admitted to the Allen hospital in Waterloo for treatment. She was released from the hospital Sept. 6th and entered the nursing home. She was 74 years, 4 months and 8 days old at the time of her death. The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home in Parkersburg where funeral arrangements were made.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, northwest of Wellsburg. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Hattie Boelman was a daughter of Semka Lindaman and Casjen Vanderwerf. She was born May 22nd, 1890 on a farm north of Wellsburg. On March 9th, 1911 Hattie Vanderwerf and John Boelman were married at her home. For 27 years they resided on a Grundy county farm south of Aplington. In 1938 they moved to a farm 5 miles east of Ackley. After the death of her husband she moved to Aplington.
Mrs. Boelman was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ of Wellsburg. She was a charter member of the Women's Guild. She was a faithful member of her church and attended regularly as long as her health permitted.
Surviving are two sons, George of Shell Rock and Casjen of Clarksville; two daughters, Laura (Mrs. Francis Byl) of Aplington and Sophia (Mrs. Carol Hawkins) of Parkersburg; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, William Vanderwerf of Aplington, Peter and Casjen Vanderwerf, both of Parkersburg; 3 sisters, Mrs. John Lenderts of George, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Hinders and Mrs. Koert Eilderts both of Ackley.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 2, 1956, her parents, one brother, John, and two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Geo. G. Boelman) and Etjedena (Mrs. Hannes Miller).
