Mrs. S. D. Aukes Dies On Saturday
Mrs. S. D. Aukes, a well known resident of this community passed away suddenly at her home Saturday, Oct. 3 at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 22 days. She had been in apparent good health up to the time of her death.
Lillian Aukes, nee Arends was born at Steen, Minnesota on May 11, 1899 where she grew to womanhood. On March 28, 1917 she was united in marriage to Simen D. Aukes. They started farming north of Wellsburg which place was their home until the time of their death.
To this union were born two children, namely Stanley Dale, who passed away in infancy and Eunice Elizabeth.
Preceding her in death were her husband and infant son and her parents. Survivors include her daughter (Eunice) Mrs. Willis Bakker of Steamboat Rock, her three sisters, Mrs. Ella Aukes of Hills, Minnesota; Mrs. Elmer (Aerna) Schneekloth of Wellsburg and Mrs. Elfrieda Moe of Minneapolis, Minn., and one brother, Harold Arends of Hills, Minn. besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 6 at 1 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church northeast of Wellsburg with Rev. M. Houts and Rev. H. M. Raecker of Vinton officiating. Miss Connie Hook was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Edward Sietsema, organist.
Pallbearers were Roy Aukes, Clayton Moe, Howard Lund, Harm Aukes, Wayne Aukes and Vern Reiher.
Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
