Katherine Garrett Dies In Hospital

Mrs. Katherine Garrett from Holland died in the hospital in Grundy Center at 7:30 on Monday. She was a patient in the hospital twelve days before her death and two months prior to that she was a resident in the nursing home at Grundy Center. Death was due to cancer. She was 74 years old.

The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home where arrangements were made. There will be a short service at the funeral home Thursday at 3 o'clock and at 3:30 at the Christian Reformed church in Holland. Burial will be in the Holland cemetery.

Mrs. Garrett was born in the Netherlands Oct. 21, 1890. At the age of ten she came to America with her parents who located in Minnesota. She attended public school there and later graduated from a school of nursing. She served as a nurse in a number of hospitals including the Veterans hospital at Knoxville.

On June 19th, 1927, she was married to Dr. George Garrett. He died three years later. The couple became the parents of twin girls.

Mrs. Garrett came to Holland to make her home in 1955.

Surviving are the two daughters, Mrs. Betty Sonnenberg of Pella, and Mrs. Katherine Allgood, Willow Lake, South Dak. There are 12 surviving grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers.
