Johanna Oelmann Resident of Region Over 60 Years, Dies

Mrs. Johanna Oelmann, 89, died early Saturday morning. She had made her home in Ackley and in the country near here for about sixty years and was "Grandma Oelmann" to her grandchildren and to her many friends as well.

She was born Johanna Duden, December 26, 1864, in Germany and was married there to Bernhard Oelmann in 1890. They came to Iowa two years later and lived on farms in Butler and Hardin counties. Mr. Oelmann died in 1906, and Mrs. Oelmann continued to live on the farm west of Abbott that was their home at that time until 1921, when she moved into Ackley.

For 55 years she had been a member of the Eastfriesland Presbyterian church.

Survivors of Mrs. Oelmann include three daughters, Mrs. E. E. Kampmann of Meservey, Mrs. Henry Lindeman, Cedar Falls, Mrs. Mearl Knight, Ackley; two sons, Carl and Otto Oelmann, both of Ackley; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Dena Arends of Covina, Calif., and two brothers, Carl Tegtmeier of Clear Lake and Louis Tegtmeier of Britt.

Funeral services were held from her home, and from the Eastfriesland church on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Calvin E. Siemsen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
