Hemmen Rites Held Wednesday, May 5
Funeral services for Lammert Hemmen were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lee S. Ferro officiating. Prayer service for the family was held at 1:15 in the church basement. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Hemmen passed away Monday morning of a heart attack at 8:30 a.m. at his home.
Mr. Hemmen, the son of Jacobus and Grietje Hisken Hemmen, was born July 5, 1889 in the Netherlands coming to the United States in 1908. He was married to Fannie Folkerts in 1925 and they lived all their married life in the Ackley vicinity. The last 12 years of his life were spent on a farm on which he was presently living. Mr. Hemmen did carpentry work and was janitor at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church until his health failed.
He is survived by eight children; Grace of Ackley; Florence (Mrs. Fred) Freese of Stout; Hattie (Mrs. Marvin) DeVries of Grundy Center; Ann (Mrs. Darwin) Muzzy of St. Paul, Minn.; Fannie (Mrs. Verle) Hilsabeck of Marion; Jacobina (Mrs. Ed) Grabow of Minneapolis; George of Steamboat Rock and Jake of Holland; 20 grandchildren; three brothers, Peter of Parkersburg, Harm of Aplington and Hayo of Kesley.
Preceding Mr. Hemmen in death were his parents; his wife in 1940; a daughter in infancy; four brothers and two sisters.
