Soldier Buried At Wellsburg

Grant E. Reed Laid To Rest In Family Lot There

Grant E. Reed, who died of pulmonary tuberculosis at the Colfax hospital at Colfax, Iowa, Tuesday, was brought to Wellsburg last week and buried in the Wellsburg cemetery Saturday afternoon. The deceased was a member of the American Legion and given fitting honors by the ex-soldiers. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Reed, live at West Bend, where they moved twelve years ago from Wellsburg.

The deceased was about 24 years old at the time of his death and a member of the Legion. He was taken to his home at West Bend and services held there last Wednesday by the Legion. The body was then brought to Wellsburg and an escort of honor from the group of ex-soldiers there aided in the burial services Saturday. Mr. Reed contracted the disease during the war and he was taken to the soldiers' hospital at Colfax. The disease lasted fourteen months before he was finally overcome. He is a grandson of J. C. Doyen, of Wellsburg, and has other relatives in that vicinity. His case is one of those sad ones which come as the aftermath of war.
