Harm Hayenga Dies at Hospital

Harm Hayenga died at the hospital in Iowa Falls on September 2nd. He had been sick but a short time with pneumonia. His health had been declining the past two years due to a heart ailment but he was able to be up and around up to within a week before his death. He was in Wellsburg visiting with his friends a week ago Saturday. He was 69 years, 11 months and 25 days old.

Funeral services were held at the home of his sister, Mrs. Claus Groninga, at Ackley early Saturday afternoon and later at the Reformed church at Wellsburg. Rev. Edward Jurgens officiated at the service. There was a very large attendance at the church service. Harm had lived in this community nearly all of his life, he was a member of the Reformed church and he had many friends. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Harm Hayenga was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelia Hayenga, among the early residents of north Grundy. He was born on a German township farm and grew up there. He owned the home farm up to a year ago when he sold a portion of it and retained 60 acres. After leaving the farm he lived in Wellsburg for some time and later at the home of Mrs. Otto Grobe at Ackley.

Surviving are one brother, Haje Hayenga from Sibley, who is now in California; three sisters, Mrs. Claus Groninga and Mrs. George Groninga of Ackley and Dena Hayenga, who resides at Baldwin Park, California.
