Bertus DeNeui Died At Blue Earth, Minn.

Bertus DeNeui died last Friday in a hospital in Blue Earth, Minn. Death followed a stroke and complications. He was 81 yeas old. For many years he resided at Ackley and vicinity.

The body was brought to Ackley, where on Monday there was a service at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Aron J. Miller.

Services were later in the Presbyterian church at Steamboat Rock. Burial was at Steamboat Rock.

Surviving are Mrs. Aaron J. Miller, Ackley; Mrs. Johanna Jansen, Lakota; Mrs. Julia Gelder, Woden; and Mrs. Marcella Pothoff, Jesup; one son, Albie DeNeui, Elmore, Minn.

Last Rites for Alebertus DeNeui

On Monday, Oct. 15, services for Alebertus DeNeui were held. Mr. Alebertus J. DeNeui, Sr., son of Johannes and Freilke Veinga DeNeui, was born on June 15, 1875, in Grundy County, Iowa. He grew to young manhood in Grundy county and in 1907, he went to South Dakota and found employment there.

He was united in marriage with Hulda Schmidt on the 30th of September, 1909, at Yale, South Dakota. Together they came back to Iowa and made their home on a farm in Grundy county for nine years after which they moved to Hardin county.

In 1944 he retired from the farm and moved to Steamboat Rock. In 1950 he left Steamboat Rock and went to Elmore, Minn., to make his home with his son, Allie and family.

Mr. DeNeui received Christian Baptism on May 28th, 1928, and became a member of the Steamboat Rock Presbyterian church. He remained a member of the Steamboat Rock church until the time of his departure from this life.

During the past two years his health began to fail and in April of this year he suffered a stroke, the effects of which left him in a weakened condition. Then in October he suffered another stroke which caused him to go into a coma. He passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 12, at 9:30 in the hospital at Blue Earth, Minn., at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 27 days.

He is survived by five children; Louise, Mrs. Arend Miller of Ackley; Johanna, Mrs. Elso Jansen of Lakota; Julia, Mrs. Henry Gelder of Woden; Allie DeNeui of Elmore, Minn., and Mrs. Raymond Polthoff of Jesup; 7 grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Mrs. J. DeNeui of Wellsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, 3 brothers, his wife who passed away on May 11, 1946, and his son, Alvin, who died October 31, 1952. Two grandsons also preceded him in death.
