Gus Siefken Dies In Marshalltown

Gus Siefken, who was born in Grundy county and who spent the early part of his life here, died last Thursday in the Evangelical hospital at Marshalltown where he had been a patient since last October. He was afflicted with cancer, which was the cause of his death. He was 77 years old.

Funeral services were Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Rev. James E. Smith, pastor of Central Christian church, Marshalltown, conducted the services. Burial was in the Benson cemetery near Whitten.

Gus Siefken was a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Siefken. At an early age he moved with his family to Marshalltown where he received his education and grew to manhood. Mr. Siefken was never married and spent most of his life in Marshalltown with the exception of five years in Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Peace and was employed at the Evangelical hospital for the last 35 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister and three brothers.

Surviving are one brother, Frank Siefken of Laramie, Wyo., and a sister, Mrs. Frank Foster of Marshalltown. Also surviving are five nieces and two nephews, Genevieve Foster, Mrs. William Phillips and Mrs. Maxwell Galloway, all of Marshalltown, Miss Jean Miller of Laramie, Wyo., Mrs. Charles Martinson of Miami, Fla., Wilfred Siefken of Denver, Colo., and Orville Foster of Marshalltown.

Among those attending the funeral Monday were Mr. and Mrs. Bud Algood, Annie Heronimus, Mr. and Mrs. John Siefken, and Fred Schmidt, all of Holland, and Mr. and Mrs. August Siefken of Bristow.
