Mrs. Fred Miller Buried On Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. Fred M. Miller, 81, were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Wellsburg Reformed Church with Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiating.
Mrs. J. F. Fischer and Mrs. Richard Claassen were flower attendants. Two songs were sung by a ladies quartet, Mrs. Irwin Abels, Mrs. Douglas Geerdes, Mrs. Harris Peters and Mrs. Herman Stahl, accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen.
Pall bearers were Arthur L. Smith, Melvin Murphy, Ronald Murphy, Fred Simbides, Laurence Hartema and Ervin Hartema.
Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Mrs. Miller passed away at the Evangelical Hospital in Marshalltown on Friday due to complications of a stroke. She had been taken to the hospital on Thursday morning.
Mrs. Miller was born Elmda Muller on August 19, 1885 on a farm in Hardin County near Ackley. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Heike Muller (nee Hilda Slight). She attended the rural schools in Grundy County.
On Jan. 9, 1908, she was united in marriage to Fred M. Miller of Wellsburg. Following their marriage they made their home in Wellsburg. To this union five children were born. They lived in Hampton for several years and for 18 years had made their home in Marshalltown. Mr. Miller passed away on Jan. 12, 1966. In January of 1958. Mr. and Mrs. Miller were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary with their family and friends.
Those preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Julia Scarr, 1 son, Fred Miller, Jr., a brother, Jake Muller, 1 sister, (Anna) Mrs. John Steenblock, 5 brothers and sisters in infancy, 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Those left to mourn her passing are 3 daughters and 2 sons, (Frances), Mrs. Glen Smith of Grinnell; Mrs. Helen Simbides of Marshalltown, Heike H. Miller of Spirit Lake; Mrs. Mae Murphy of Hampton; Warren R. Miller of Grinnell, 3 sisters and 2 brothers, Mrs. Florence Hartema of Ackley; John Muller of Ackley; Earl Muller of Sepulvecia, Calif., Mrs. Ida Kies of Ackley, (Hilda), Mrs. Henry Cordes of Hampton; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
