Fred Koch Dies of Heart Attack, Funeral Tuesday

Fred Koch, 48, lifelong resident of Shiloh township, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday in Wellsburg of a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Mrs. Koch home and later in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church, with Rev. James Ohlrogge of Grundy Center officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Casketbearers were William F. Koch, I. J. Harms, Carl Giesking, Alvin and George Senne and Dick Harringa. Mrs. Chris Muller, Jr., and Mrs. Abe Murra served as flower attendants.

The choir of St. Paul's church furnished the funeral music, and Mrs. Frank Meyeraan, Jr., was organist. Because the deceased was a veteran of World War II, he was given military rites.

Koch had suffered from heart trouble and complications for some time, and only recently returned home after spending nearly two months in the Des Moines Veterans hospital.

He farmed with a brother, Ernest, on the Koch home place two miles north and a mile west of Wellsburg at the north edge of Shiloh township. That day it had rained so he came to town, where he was fatally striken on main street. A doctor was summoned but efforts to revive him were not successful.
