Henry DeVries, 73, Longtime Resident Buried on Tuesday
Henry DeVries, 73, a resident of the Wellsburg area for nearly 50 years, died at 6:05 a.m. Saturday of a stroke at Independence.
The funeral was held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the DeVries home northeast of Wellsburg, and later in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church, Rev. E. A. Slottag in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Music was furnished by the church choir, with Mrs. Frank Meyeraan Jr. organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Harold F. Harms and Mrs. Bernard A. Engelkes.
Pallbearers were Klaas J. Muller, Clarence Muller, Fred Muller, Klaas Muller, Edward Decknadel and Dick Seehusen.
Henry DeVries was born Feb. 8, 1885, in Lincoln township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rolf DeVries. He spent his entire life in Grundy county.
He was united in marriage to Elmde Muller on February 9, 1912 in Lincoln township. The couple lived on the farm 5 1/2 miles northeast of Wellsburg their entire married lives together.
Mr. DeVries had been in poor health for some time. He had been a patient at the Independence hospital for almost three years prior to his death.
Surviving are the widow, one daughter, Gertie, at home, one son, Ralph, Holland and two grandchildren, Ruth and Robert DeVries.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers. Henry DeVries had been the sole surviving member of the parental Rolf DeVries family.
