Bud Hummel Rites Wednesday
Thaddeus "Bud" Hummel, 76, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, August 5, 1979 at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo following complications of a stroke.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center. Rev. Kenneth Willhite, pastor of the Reinbeck Baptist church, officiated. Mrs. Raymond Appel played organ interludes "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." Casket bearers were Ralph Huisman, Harold Lynch, William Slater, Don Folkerts, Dale Folkerts, and Harry Cooley. Mrs. Harry Cooley and Mrs. Bill Cooley were in charge of the flowers. Burial was in the Washington township cemetery near Morrison.
Bud was born November 29, 1902 in Grundy Center, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Fannie Raff Hummel. In April 1937 he was married to Tena Dingel at Hampton, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Morrison. He was employed for many years by the Grundy County Maintenance Dept. as a road grader operator. Following his wife's death on September 21, 1943, he continued to live alone in Morrison until 1969. He then made his home with his daughter Betty in Morrison until August 2, 1971 when he became a resident of Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center. Bud was a past member of the IOOF lodge.
He is survived by two daughter, Mrs. Charles (Betty) Bownes of Morrison, Mrs. Melvin (Judy) Steward of Cody, Wyoming, one brother, Sidney Hummel of Cedar Falls and five grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Mr. Hummel was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
