Mrs. O. Downey Dies in Waterloo

Mrs. Oscar Downey died Sunday afternoon in Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, from old age and complications. She was 79 years old.

Mrs. Downey was born on a farm a short distance west of Morrison. She was born September 18, 1876. She grew up in the Morrison community and attended school there.

On July 23, 1895, she and Oscar Downey were married. The couple lived in Morrison continually after their marriage. Mr. Downey operated a barbershop in Morrison. He died October 29, 1937. She continued to live in Morrison for some time after her husband's death, after which she moved to Reinbeck where for several years she made her home with two sisters, Mrs. Charles Robinson and Mrs. Emery Barrick. For some time the three sisters were at the Woodland Convalescent home in Waterloo.

The body was brought to the French Funeral Home at Reinbeck, where services were held Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in the Washington township cemetery.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robert Myers, South Bend, Ind., one grandson, Robert Downey Myers, and the two sisters, Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Barrick. Mrs. Downey was one of seven sisters in the Ross Morrison family.
