William Hulon Hood, 70, of Grundy Center, died of Emphysema at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Tuesday evening, October 27. He was a resident of the long term care unit.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck. Rev. Randy McGrady-Beach officiated. Burial with military honors by the Lincoln Amvets Post #10 and the Reinbeck American Legion Action Post #242 was in the Washington Township Cemetery, Morrison.

William was born December 26, 1927, in Stout. He was the son of John Jefferson "Jeff" and Floy Morrison Hood. He attended school in Morrison and Reinbeck areas until the 9th Grade.

He was united in marriage to Miss Opal M. Morgan of Preston, Missouri, on June 19, 1949 in Reinbeck. William served in the United States Army from April 1946-March 1950. William served as mayor of Morrison for two terms in the 1970's. He was employed by the C.M.C. in Waterloo for over 20 years. He retired in 1987. He was a former member of the Lincoln Amvet Post #10 and a member of the Presbyterian faith. He lived in Morrison for 35 years moving to Grundy Center in November of 1997.

Preceding him in death was a son, Steven in 1964; his parents; 2 sisters, Mildred and Crystal.

Surviving are his wife, Opal of Grundy Center; 6 children, Connie (Mrs. Don) Diamond of Conrad, Kathy (Mrs. Ron) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Jeffery of Marshalltown, Stanley and his wife Michele of Waterloo, James and his wife Chris of Oskaloosa and Lisa (Mrs. Steve) Dean of Wellsburg; 18 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

The Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck was in charge of the arrangements.
