Mr. Francis Leo Hopkins, 78, of Reinbeck, formerly of Morrison, died of natural causes Friday, May 14, 1999 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 at the First Presbyterian Church, Reinbeck, with Rev. Randy McGrady-Beach officiating. Burial was in the Washington Township Cemetery, Morrison. A memorial fund is being established.

Born on March 6, 1921 in Davis County, he was the son of Viola May Hopkins. He grew up in the area of his birth and he received his education in the Davis County schools.

On October 29, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA, Leo married Leona Weichers of Wellsburg. The couple made their home in Morrison where Leo had been a truck driver and was owner and operator of F.L. Hopkins Septic Tank Service for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Morrison Presbyterian Church and later the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck. Leo took pride in living in Morrison and took an active part in giving to the Morrison community. He had served on the Morrison City Council and a term as City Mayor. He was a member of the Grundy County Historical Collection Society. He also enjoyed taking an active role in helping with farm work. Mrs. Leona Hopkins died on February 26, 1988.

In addition to his mother and wife, Leo was preceded in death by his half-sisters, Thelma Closser and Betty Skinner; and two great-grandchildren, Jill and Tyler Cooley.

Surviving are his three daughters and son; Dixie and her husband Mark Schildroth of Reinbeck, Donna and her husband Bill Cooley of Morrison, Susan and her husband Bruce Keller of Morrison and Delayne and his wife Cathy Hopkins of Reinbeck; five half-sisters, Alberta Rauh of Shadduc, OK, Beverly Porter of Floris, Barbara Janney of Newark, CA, Margaret Ingersoll of Jerseyville, IL and Shirley Roberts of Iowa City; three half-brothers, Tom Bridgeman, Jr. of Bloomfield, Jackie Bridgeman of Castana and Gary Bridgeman of San Diego, CA; six grandsons, Todd Schildroth, Kevin Keller, David Hopkins, Steve Hopkins, Jason Keller and Paul Cooley; five granddaughters, Kelly Dinsdale, Angie Kickbush, Christie Sannes, Laurie Wallis and Patti Martens; 12 great-grandchildren; and other distant relatives.

Hand's Funeral Home in Reinbeck was in charge of the arrangements.
