Jacob Ascher Dies At Nursing Home, Funeral Saturday

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church for Jacob Ascher.

Rev. Donald Brown was officiating clergyman. Eldon Harms was soloist. He was accompanied by Mrs. Harms, organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Vail Hess and Mrs. Lloyd Draper.

Pallbearers were Vail Hess, Sam Paterni, Gerald Hess, Ernest Draper, Henry Hertema and Roger Peters.

Interment was made in the St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church cemetery.

Jacob Ascher passed away at 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Grundy Center following a lingering illness. He reached the age of 74 years, 5 months and 14 days.

He was born on a farm in Shiloh Township, Grundy County, northeast of Wellsburg on Nov. 15, 1896, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Ascher, Sr. (nee Trientje Peters). He attended the rural school in the area. He was baptized in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

In 1928 he moved to a farm in Melrose township, where he made his home with his sisters, Gepka, Mrs. John Vanderwerf. Mrs. Vanderwerf passed away on January 7, 1964. In November of 1968 his health began to fail. On January 6, 1970 he entered the nursing home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, 1 brother and a twin sister in infancy.

Those left to mourn his passing are two sisters and one brother, they are (Christine) Mrs. Hilko Kolthoff of Steamboat Rock, Mrs. Augusta Henze of Grundy Center; August H. Ascher of Wellsburg; 7 nieces and 10 nephews.
