Family Mourns Passing Of Chris Finke

Funeral services for Chris Finke were held on Monday, June 18, 1979 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Wellsburg. Clergyman was Rev. Clarence Alexander. A men's quartet, Eldon Harms, Michael Harms, Dennis L. Huisman and Darrell Koch sang two songs. Mrs. Eldon Harms was organist. Mrs. Carl Reiter, Mrs. Lee Boomgarden and Mrs. Steven Nielsen were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Elmer Fritzel, Lee Boomgarden, Carl Reiter, Jakie G. Lindamn, Ted W. VanDeest and Alvin Harms. Interment was made in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Chris Finke passed away shortly before midnight on Thursday evening, June 14, 1979, at the Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo following a lingering illness, having reached the age of 76 years, six months and 14 days. He had been taken to the hospital on June 11th for treatment.

He was born on a farm in Grundy County, near Fern, on November 30, 1902, the son of John and Kate (Harms) Finke, and attended the rural school in the area. On September 3, 1925, he was united in marriage to Florence Ascher at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg. Following their wedding they farmed in the Buck Grove area and in 1942 they moved to his parents farm in Colfax Township. In 1962 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home.

Chris was baptized in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on March 5, 1903 and was confirmed there on March 24, 1918.

They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary on September 7, 1975, with their family and friends.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, one sister, Louise; one brother, John Finke; one son, Elmer Finke and two grandchildren.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his daughter, , Buckles of , Arthur Finke of grandchildren; one brother, Stickfort of Grundy Carl (Martha) Wellsburg; Mrs. Ross of Wellsburg; Ebe Wellsburg; Mrs. Minnie of Wellsburg; Mrs. (Carrie) Muller of Grundy Center; Mrs. William (Edna) Meyer of Holland and many other relatives and friends.
