Funeral Rites For Lee Etjen Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Lee Etjen were held on Tuesday, at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church northeast of Wellsburg. Rev. Clarence Alexander was officiating clergyman.

Eldon Harms was soloist. Mrs. Eldon Harms was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Bernard Gavin and Mrs. Paul Siefken.

Pall bearers were Ralph Haupt, Myles Meyer, Jeff Okones, Dr. Bernard Gavin, Richard Ross and Tyle Huisman.

Interment was made in the St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lee Etjen passed away at 11:45 Friday evening, March 17, 1978, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, due to complications following a fall earlier in the day. He reached the age of 67 years, 8 months and 4 days.

He was born on a farm in Colfax township, northeast of Wellsburg, on July 13, 1910, the son of Charles and Jennie (Saathoff) Etjen, and attended the rural school in the area. On June 22, 1932, he was united in marriage to Jennie Maas at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church parsonage by the Rev. C. Heinrich. Following their marriage they made their home in Wellsburg where they have lived all of their married life. This union was blessed with two daughters.

Lee was a long time member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg having been confirmed on December 27, 1936.

For the past several years he was a part-time employee of the Ackley Food Processors in Ackley.

Those preceding him in death were: his parents, his daughter, (Donna Mae), Mrs. Elwood Doyen who passed away November 29, 1974, two brothers, John and Willie Etjen and one sister, (Kate), Mrs. Harm Knock.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Jennie; his daughter, Janice and her husband, Neil Okones, Jr. of Traer; his son-in-law, Elwood Doyen of Wellsburg; five grandchildren, (Ginny), Mrs. Ralph Haupt, (Julie), Mrs. Myles Meyer, both of Wellsburg; Jeffery Okones of Ames; Susan and Jacki Okones of Traer; three sisters, Mrs. Rena Eilers of Parkersburg, (Tillie), Mrs. John Uhlenhopp of Parkersburg, (Grace), Mrs. Lawrence Sheldon of Eldora and many other relatives and friends.
