Mrs. Weichers Died Saturday At Hospital
Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Wellsburg for Mrs. Malena Weichers, 90, who died Saturday evening of a lingering illness at Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
Rev. Clarence Alexander officiated the service.
Casket bearers were Alvin Rindels, Gordon Weichers, Delayne Hopkins, Lee Weichers, Dennis L. Huisman and Duane Huisman.
Special music for the service was provided by vocalist Eldon Harms and organist Mrs. Eldon Harms. Marcella Neessen and Mrs. Alvin Harms were flower attendants.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Weichers died Saturday at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, where she had been confined to the long term care unit since May 24, 1976. She reached the age of 90 years, 10 months and 20 days.
Malena Konrads Molendorp was born near Aplington on March 9, 1886, the daughter of Konrad and Grace (Wolters) Molendorp and attended the rural school in the area. On April 7, 1903, she was united in marriage to Dick Weichers in Franklin County. They first lived in Aplington, then on several farms in Grundy County. In 1952, they retired and moved to Wellsburg.
Mrs. Weichers was a long time member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg. She was also a member of the LCW women's organization of the church and attended as long as her health permitted. Mr. and Mrs. Weichers were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on April 7, 1953, with their family and friends.
Preceding her in death were: her parents, her husband on April 8, 1962, 2 sons, John and Conrad Weichers; 1 brother, 5 half-brothers; 6 sisters; 3 half-sisters; 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: 3 sons and 7 daughters: (Anna), Mrs. Richard Rindels of Bristow; (Grace), Mrs. John Freese of Wellsburg; (Rena), Mrs. Harm Huisman of Buffalo Center; (Nettie), Mrs. Dick D. Huisman of Wellsburg; (Edna), Mrs. Paul Kreb of Waterloo; Harold Weichers of Wellsburg; (Leona), Mrs. Francis Hopkins of Morrison; Lester Weichers of Waterloo; Dale Weichers of Holland; Miss Mildred Weichers of Wellsburg; 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters and 1 brother, Mrs. Emma Barnett of Lake Crystal, Minnesota; Mrs. Anna Rindels of Cedar Falls; Conrad Molendorp of Ackley and many other relatives and friends.
