Miss Hattie Ascher passed away around 3:45 Tuesday afternoon, October 19, 1971, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo due to complications from chronic hepatitis. She had entered the hospital on October 16th for treatment. She reached the age of 61 years, 9 months and 19 days.

Hattie was born on a farm in Shiloh township, Grundy county, northeast of Wellsburg, on December 30, 1909, the daughter of Henry and Hattie (Maas) Ascher. She attended the rural school in the area. The family moved to the Buck Grove area in 1942.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, August.

Those left to mourn her passing are 4 brothers and 3 sisters: John Ascher of Clarksville, Henry Ascher of Parkersburg, (Florence) Mrs. Chris Finke of Wellsburg, (Tena) Mrs. Roy Riekena of Spokane, Washington, Harry Ascher of Grundy Center, Peter Ascher of Aplington, (Mildred) Mrs. Harold Purvis of Iowa Falls and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Anderson officiating. Mrs. Elwood Doyen was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Eldon Harms. Flower attendants were Mrs. Folkert Boelman and Mrs. Clarence Bergman. Pall bearers were Calvin Kannegieter, Elmer Bergman, Edward Spree, Folkert Boelman, Clarence Bergman and Lester Mennen. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
