HARMS, William 1887-1971

William Harms passed away around 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, October 26, 1971, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo due to complications of advanced age. He had been taken to the hospital on Sunday the 24th. He reached the age of 84 years, 4 months and 22 days.

He was born on a farm in Colfax Township, northeast of Wellsburg, on June 4, 1887, the son of Ibeling and Martha (Stoehr) Harms. He attended the rural school in the area. On January 30, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Dora Buss. Following their marriage they moved to a farm in Pleasant Valley township northeast of Wellsburg. To this union was born 3 daughters and 6 sons. Mrs. Harms passed away on July 21, 1957.

He was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg in 1903.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, his wife, 1 grandson, 3 sisters and 8 brothers.

He leaves to mourn his passing 3 daughters and 6 sons: Ibeling W. Harms of Ackley; Dick Harms of Ackley; Willie Harms at home; Theodore Harms of Grundy Center; (Lena) Mrs. John R. Freese of Eldora; (Mary) Mrs. Edwin Stahl of Wellsburg; Alfred Harms of Wellsburg; (Mabel) Mrs. Louis Janssen of Grundy Center; Elmer Harms of Jefferson; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for William Harms were held Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Kenneth Ebb officiated. Mrs. Elwood Doyen was soloist. Mrs. Frank Meyeraan Jr. was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Warren Anderson and Mrs. George Anderson. Pall bearers were Chris Finke, Edward H. Harms, I. J. Harms, Alvin Harms, Martin Harms and Ebe Finke. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
