Funeral Service For Lena Ross Held On Sunday

Mrs. Lena Ross died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, November 15, at the Schoitz Medical Center in Waterloo due to complications following surgery performed on Tuesday the 13th.

She had been taken to the hospital on November 10th for treatment. She reached the age of 79 years, 8 months and 12 days.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Ross were held Sunday, November 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Wellsburg. Rev. Don Feuerhak officiated at the services.

Music was given by Arthur Finke, soloist, who sang "One Day At A Time" and "He Touched Me". A selection, "How Great Thou Art" from the Lutheran Book of Worship was sung by the congregation. Mrs. Eldon Harms was Organist.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Leland Luwe and Miss Mildred Weichers.

Casket bearers were Ray Tessau, Calvin Muller, LeeRoy Stickfort, Donald Roll, LuVerne Ross, and Donald Huisman. The interment service was held in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery.

She was born on a farm in Pleasant Valley Township, near Fern, on March 3, 1905, the daughter of John A. and Kate (Harms) Finke and received her education in the rural school in the area.

On March 6, 1929, she was married to Gratus Ross at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg by the Rev. C. Heinrich. Following their marriage they lived on a farm northwest of Wellsburg for two years and then moved to Wellsburg where they continued to make their home. They were married for over 55 years.

She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and joined the church in 1936. She had been a member of the L.C.W. of the church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant son, Melvin Kenneth Ross, who passed away on November 27, 1930; an infant sister, Louise Finke; and two brothers, John and Chris Finke.

Those left to mourn her passing are: her husband, Gratus Ross; five sisters and one brother, Mrs. William (Sophie) Stickfort of Grundy Center, Mrs. Carl (Martha) Heinrich of the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Ebe Finke of Wellsburg, Mrs. George (Minnie) Schmidt of Wellsburg, Mrs. Klaas (Carrian) Muller of Grundy Center; Mrs. William (Edna) Meyer of Holland, and many other relatives and friends.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
