John O. Tjaden Funeral Held On Saturday

John O. Tjaden passed away Wednesday morning, November 11 at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley due to heart failure. He reached the age of 73 years, four months, and three days.

Funeral services for John O. Tjaden were held on Saturday, November 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock. Rev. Bruce Baillie was officiating pastor.

Mrs. Orville Asher and Mrs. James McDonald sang two duet numbers. Mrs. Lee Pieters was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Helen Johns and Mrs. Lydia Potgeter.

Pall bearers were Wendell Hoekstra, Michael Kuhfus, Otto Filbrandt, Neil Okones, Jr., Robert Mangin, and Gene Gorby.

The interment service was held in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery northeast of Wellsburg.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John was born on July 8, 1908, in Wellsburg, the son of Otta and Elizabeth (Akkerman) Tjaden.

He graduated from Wellsburg High School with the class of 1926.

On March 1, 1930, he was united in marriage to Florence Maas at Wellsburg. Following their marriage they lived on a farm north of Wellsburg for four years and then moved to Wellsburg.

In 1942 they moved to Waterloo to make their home where John was employed by various businesses to include Continental Baking Company, Coca Cola Company and Waterloo Industries.

In 1973 they moved to Steamboat Rock to make their home. In July of 1977, he became a resident of the Presbyterian Home in Ackley.

He was a member of the Steamboat Rock Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include: his wife, Florence of Steamboat Rock; two sons, Robert Tjaden of Hemet, California, Gordon Tjaden of Sparta, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Mrs. Diane Robinson of Marblehead, Massachusetts, Steven Tjaden of Cedar Grove, New Jersey, children of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tjaden; Christoffer Tjaden of the Travis Air Force Base in California, Stina and John Tjaden, both of Sparta, Wisconsin, children of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Tjaden; one sister, Mrs. Luella Lindaman of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
