Family Mourns The Death Of George Getting

Funeral services for George G. Getting were held on Wednesday, December 1, at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Wellsburg. Officiating was Rev. Cranston Gesell.

Eldon Harms sang one selection. One hymn was sung by the congregation. Mrs. Frank Meyeraan Jr. was organist who provided a prelude and postlude and also was accompanist for the other numbers. Flower attendants were Mrs. James Miller and Mrs. William Rewerts.

Pallbearers were Jacob Miller, Edwart Hartema, John Getting, John Irvin Harms, Vernon Meyeraan, and Bernerd Harms.

The interment service was held at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

George C. Getting passed away Sunday evening, November 28, at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames following a lingering illness. He had been a patient there since November 15th. He reached the age of 71 years, 11 months and 27 days.

He was born on a farm in Colfax Township, near Holland, on December 1, 1910, the son of George and Etta (Penning) Getting. The family later moved to a farm in German Township, northwest of Wellsburg, where he received his education in the "Flowing Well" country school. On September 8, 1934, he was married to Charlotte Harms at Grundy Center. Following their marriage they lived on farms near Robertson until they moved to Steamboat Rock in 1965 to make their home. He was a truck driver for about 14 years hauling freight for All-American Freight System.

George was a long-time member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, an infant son, one brother and three sisters.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Charlotte; his son, Dean Getting of Protection, KS; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; one brother, John Getting of Grundy Center; one sister, Mrs. Etta Dekker, residing at the Valley View Nursing Home in Eldora and many other relatives and friends.
