Services Held For Ibeling G. Harms, 88

Funeral services for Ibeling G. Harms were held on Saturday, June 28 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Wellsburg. Pastor Richard Dowling officiated at the services.

Two selections were sung from the Lutheran Book of Worship by the congregation. Mrs. Frank Meyeraan, Jr. was organist and accompanist.

Mrs. Edwin Stahl and Mrs. Chris Koch were flower attendants.

Casket bearers were Bernerd Harms, Vernon Meyeraan, Henry Mayland, Elmer Boyken, Raymond Kruse and Arnold Kruse.

The interment service was held in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harms died at 11 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames due to cancer. He had been taken to the hospital on the previous Tuesday for treatment. He reached the age of 88 years, 6 months and 5 days.

He was born December 20, 1897, on a farm in Colfax township, northeast of Wellsburg, the son of John and Charlotte (Koch) Harms and received his education in the rural school in the area.

On February 15, 1921, he was married to Hermine Mayland at Titonka. Following their marriage they began farming in Colfax township, northeast of Wellsburg. Later they moved to a farm near Allison before moving back to the Wellsburg area. In 1961 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home. In 1986 they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

He was baptized in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg on February 27, 1898 and was confirmed there on April 5, 1914.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister, George, John and William Harms; Mrs. Minnie Olsen and a brother and sister in infancy.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Hermine; 3 daughters and 1 son, Mrs. Joe (Lorraine) Ersland of Lakewood, CA' Mrs. Velma Copeland of Iowa Falls; Mrs. Vernon (LaVine) Winters of Alden; Eldon Harms of Wellsburg; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Getting of Steamboat Rock; Mrs. Frank (Lydia) Meyeraan of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
