Rites Held For Anna Ascher
Mrs. August (Anna) Ascher, Sr., of Wellsburg, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Monday, April 20, at the Emergency Room of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, following a heart attack suffered at her home in Wellsburg.
Funeral services were held at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg, on Wednesday, April 22, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Richard L. Dowling officiated.
The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." The accompanist was Mrs. Frank Meyeraan, Jr. She also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
Grandsons serving as casket bearers were Kendall Ringena, Greg Ringena, Brent Ascher, T.J. Oordt, Troy Groninga, Justin Oelmann, Jeremy Oelmann and Michael Ascher.
The ushers were Dick Huisman, Ted Harms, and Ralph Haupt. Mrs. George Eckhoff, Mrs. Ernest DeNeui and Mrs. Arnold Boekhoff were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Church Cemetery.
Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.
Mrs. Ascher was born on August 14, 1911, at her parents' home near Steamboat Rock, the daughter of Ed and Anna Eckhoff Christians. She attained the age of 75 years, eight months and six days.
She attended rural school near Steamboat Rock.
On January 19, 1938, she was united in marriage to August H. Ascher in the First Christian Reformed Church parsonage, rural Wellsburg. After their marriage, they lived and farmed near the Ascher farm northeast of Wellsburg until they retired in 1976, and made their home in Wellsburg.
She was a longtime and active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a member of the L.C.W.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant sister, one brother, Arend (age 3), and one sister, Mrs. Marlin (Martha) Harms.
She is survived by her husband, August Ascher, Sr., of Wellsburg; two daughters, Mrs. John (Thelma) Ringena of Steamboat Rock and Annabelle Oelmann of Ackley; three sons, August Ascher, Jr. of Grundy Center and James and Edwin of Wellsburg; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two brothers, Chris and Arend Christians, both of Wellsburg.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
