Services Held For Hattie Aalfs

Hattie Aalfs, 92, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg, on Friday, December 29, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Richard Dowling officiated.

Richard Schafer sang "How Great Thou Art," and "The Old Rugged Cross." He was accompanied by Mrs. Joyce Meyeraan, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The honorary casket bearers were Jeff Henricks, John Aalfs, Leland Aalfs and Lowell Aalfs.

Casket bearers were Michael Aalfs, Terry Aalfs, James Aalfs, Jerry Huisman, Murray Henricks and Loren Aalfs.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Hattie Aalfs, daughter of Harm and Mary Buss Harms, was born June 18, 1897, in Shiloh township, Grundy county. She attended the Shiloh township school.

On October 26, 1917, Hattie was united in marriage to Henry Aalfs at the St. Paul Lutheran church, rural Wellsburg. She was a lifetime member of the church.

Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, five brothers, five sisters, and one grandson.

She is survived by three sons, Jake Aalfs, of Wellsburg, Harm Aalfs of Holland, and Lawrence Aalfs, of Parkersburg; a daughter, Marietta Henricks, Reinbeck; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
