Duane Harms Services Held

Duane Engene Harms died on Thursday, August 19, at Phoenix, Arizona. A chapel service was held on Wednesday morning, August 25, in Phoenix for family and friends at Geer Wilson Chapel. Interment service was held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at Phoenix, AZ. Rev. James Cunningham was officiating clergyman.

Memorial services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 28, at 2 p.m. followed by the committal service at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Rev. Richard Dowling was officiating pastor.

Duane Eugene Harms, 62, was born May 9, 1931 to John and Katie Hoodjer Harms on a farm east of Wellsburg. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Wellsburg and later the family moved to the Renwick-Kanawha area and attended the Lutheran Church there where Duane was confirmed while the family lived there. They moved to a farm near Iowa Falls and then he enlisted into the U.S. Navy. He spent most of his 10 years on a ship at sea.

He returned home and started working for farmers in Iowa till he moved to Phoenix, Arizona. There he worked many years at the L&M Lamination Company till the plant closed and he retired. He lived with his sons and came back to Iowa many summers to be around the family. When Duane would give you that smile and nod you knew it was all right in his mind and he would always be ready to lend that helping hand, no matter what it was.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing and the family get-togethers with all of the visiting and joking around.

He was preceded in death by his father, four children and a brother-in-law.

Surviving is his mother, Mrs. Katie Harms; four children: Curtis of Phoenix, AZ, Clayton of Postville, IA, Chad of Wichita, KS, and Craig of Phoenix, AZ; four sisters: Deloris of Hampton, Caroline of Lone Rock, Imogene of Bradford and Sharon of Coulter; four brothers: John Ervin of Osage, Gene of Baraboo, WI, Wendell of Anaheim, CA and Roger of Chariton.
