August Ascher Services Held
August H. Ascher, 86, of Wellsburg, passed away on Saturday, June 6, in the Emergency Room of the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 8, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pastor Charles Ager officiated.
Pallbearers were Kendall Ringena, Greg Ringena, Brent Ascher, Troy Groninga, Michael Ascher and Jeremy Oelmann. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Massiello, Gary Werkman, Barry Frantz, T.J. Oordt, Lou Waugaman, Justin Oelmann and Kent Keninger.
A memorial fund has been established.
August was born on September 24, 1911, on a farm near Wellsburg, the son of August and Trientje (Peters) Ascher. On January 19, 1938, he was united in marriage to Anna Christians in the First Christian Reformed Church parsonage, rural Wellsburg. They farmed all their married life on the family farm northeast of Wellsburg and in October of 1975, they moved into Wellsburg. August continued to enjoy his exotic birds and animals that he raised. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; his parents; 1 brother, Jacob Ascher; and 3 sisters, Christine Kolthoff, Gepka Vanderwerf and Augusta Henze.
Survivors include his 2 daughters, Thelma Ringena and husband John of Steamboat Rock and Annabelle Schriever and husband Lloyd of Ackley; 3 sons, August Ed (Junior) and wife Mary of Grundy Center, Edwin and wife Beth of Wellsburg and James and wife Diane of Wellsburg; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Edith Murra of Wellsburg.
The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
