Dick D. Huisman, of Wellsburg, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 1999, at the Ackley Presbyterian Village in Ackley of natural causes having attained the age of 91 years, six months and 25 days.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 3, at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Bradley and Brian Nederhoff, Kory and Kendall Meyeraan, Jeff and Rick Huisman and Jason Buss.

A memorial fund has been established.

Dick was born August 3, 1907, the son of Dick and Tatjie (Ross) Huisman in rural Wellsburg. On January 9, 1934, he was united in marriage to Nettie Weichers at the Lincoln Center parsonage. Dick owned and operated a corn sheller for 37 years retiring in 1977. He lived in the Wellsburg area all his life until moving to the Ackley Presbyterian Village in 1995. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Dick served on the church board and the Wellsburg City Council.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Kevin Meyeraan, three brothers, Jerry, William and Henry Huisman.

Survivors include his wife, Nettie Huisman of Wellsburg; three daughters, Joyce Meyeraan and husband Frank of Wellsburg, Shirley Nederhoff and husband Dale of Tampa, FL and Brenda Buss and husband Gene of Marshall, MN; one son, Dennis Huisman and wife Norma of Wellsburg; one brother, Albert Huisman and wife Irene of Wellsburg; one sister, Gertie Bunger of Wellsburg; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
