Florence Tjaden, 90, of Steamboat Rock, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Interment was at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Wellsburg. Services followed at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock. Memorials may be directed to the church.
Florence was born on April 27, 1910, in Wellsburg the daughter of Harry and Sarah (Olthoff) Maas. She graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1928. On March 1, 1930, she was united in marriage to John Tjaden in Wellsburg. They lived in Sans Souci in Waterloo and she worked at Hinson's Manufacturing for 32 years, retiring in 1972. They moved to Steamboat Rock in 1973.
Florence was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, P.W.C. and the Progress Club. She was a lifelong avid basketball fan and enjoyed her family, music and travel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1981; her parents; infant sister, Florence, and sister, Mary Schmidt; and brother, Henry Maas.
Survivors include her two sons, Robert and wife Cynthia of Hemet, CA and Gordon and wife Ulla of Sparta, WI; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Jennie Etjen, Mabel Weichers, Wyone Ross and husband Willard all of Wellsburg, Lillian Cervetti and Harriet Burns of Steamboat Rock; and two sisters-in-law, Luella Lindaman and Jayne Maas of Wellsburg.
The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
