Jennie Etjen, 87, of Wellsburg, died February 22 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were February 26 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Wellsburg. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

She was born August 7, 1914, on a farm north of Wellsburg in Shiloh township, daughter of Harry and Sara (Olthoff) Maas. She attended Shiloh #1 through the 8th grade then graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1932. On June 22, 1932, she was united in marriage to Lee Etjen at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Parsonage. She lived in Wellsburg and worked several years for Henry Hippen Auto and Oil, and for 27 years in the Veterinary Office for Dr. Heddens & Drum and Dr. Gaven. She was an avid sports fan, cheering for both the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Mrs. Neil) OKones of Wellsburg, sisters, Mabel Weichers of Wellsburg, Lillian Cervetti of Steamboat Rock, Wyone (Mrs. Willard) Ross of Wellsburg and Harriett Burns of Steamboat Rock; son-in-law, Elwood "Red" Doyen of Wellsburg; sisters-in-law, Jane Maas of Wellsburg and Grace Sheldon of Mason City; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lee on March 17, 1978, her parents; daughter, Donna Doyen; sisters, Faulka in infancy, Mary Schmidt and Florence Tjaden; and brother, Henry Maas.
