Dieke D. Dieken, Former Resident Here, Dies Friday

Funeral services for Dieke D. Dieken, 79, of Grundy Center were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church northwest of Holland, followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Rev. Gene Straatmeyer officiated the service.

Special music was furnished by Mrs. Straatmeyer, accompanied by Mrs. Hiriam Dieken.

Casketbearers were Rev. Richard Dieken, Ubbie Petersen Jr., George Dudden, Dieke Schmitt, Alvin Alberts and T. J. Dudden.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Matthew Loger and Mrs. Jerry Peters.

Mr. Dieken died Friday evening at his home in Grundy Center of an apparent heart attack.

He was born May 2, 1888, in Colfax township, the son of Dieke J. and Hiemke Dirks Dieken.

On February 16, 1910, he was united in marriage to Maggie Bakker. The couple farmed in Colfax township until 1923 when they moved to Grundy Center, where he operated a farm implement business for several years. Mrs. Dieken died January 7, 1957.

He was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, which he served for many years as elder, deacon and trustee.

He is survived by one daughter, Emma, Mrs. Claus P. Dudden of Grundy Center.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, one brother and three sisters.

The casket was taken from the Engelkes Funeral Home to the church Tuesday noon, where it was open prior to the service.
