Lupke Hook Dies At Age 85

Lupke Hook, who resided in Grundy county all of his life, died Friday morning at 3 o'clock in the home of his daughter, Mrs. John E. Graves, in Colfax township. He was 85 years old. He had been in failing health for a long time. Both of his legs were amputated within late years.

The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home in Grundy Center, where services were held at 1:30 on Monday afternoon and later at the Colfax Center Presbyterian church with Rev. Gene Straatmeyer officiating. Burial was in the Colfax church cemetery. Mr. Hook was born in Colfax township November 22, 1880. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Hook and grew up on a Colfax township farm. He was married to Wobke Junker, Feb. 26, 1908. She died July 29, 1909. He was re-married to his wife's sister, Frauke Junker, March 22, 1911. She died Dec. 10, 1962.

Mr. Hook and his family farmed in Colfax township until 1926, when he and his family moved to Aplington. In 1949 they moved to Grundy Center. The last year of his life he resided with his daughter, Mrs. John E. Graves, and family.

Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Graves; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was the last member of the Harm Hook family to go. His parents, brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
