Mrs. Arthur Drake Last Rites at Colfax

Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Erna Apel Drake, age 73, at the Colfax Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Glenn R. Dieken of Traer, officiating, assisted by Dr. Arthur Lewis of St. Paul. She passed away at Salinas, Calif. April 28th.

She was born July 3, 1897, at Rudd, Iowa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Apel. She attended local schools near her home in Rudd, and attended Dubuque academy and college and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1921. On June 30th, 1921 she was married to Rev. Arthur E. Drake.

They served churches at Kesley, Ashton, Iowa, Lennox, S. Dak. and Dubuque, Iowa.

Rev. Drake died in 1948. She lived in Wheaton, Ill. for 8 years and served as a missionary in Portugal for ten years. During the past five years she has lived in California near her daughter.

Survivors are four children: Mrs. Arnold (Dorothy) Nelson, Salinas, Calif.; Mrs. Arthur (Helen) Lewis, St. Paul, Minn.; Paul Drake of St. Paul, Minn.; and Dr. David Drake, Michigan; nine grandchildren; also two brothers and four sisters; Melvin Apel of Rudd, Iowa; Rev. Henry Apel of Topeka, Kans., Miss Gertrude Apel and Miss Clara Apel, both of Rudd, Mrs. Sophia Manlove of Mason City and Mrs. Paul Duenow of Mitchell, Iowa.

Burial was in the Colfax Center cemetery. Arrangements were made by Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home.
