Services Here For Alice Knock

Services for Mrs. Alice Knock, 87, a former Grundy Center resident, who died January 29 in Des Moines were held Saturday afternoon at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center. The Rev. William H. Myers of the Westminster United Presbyterian church in Des Moines, officiated.

Organ interludes of "How Great Thou Art" and "Lead Kindly Light" were played by Mrs. Raymond Appel. Casket bearers were Marvin Tack, Benjamin Groote, Rudolph Heerkes, Claude Lines, Floyd Rouse and William Groote. Interment was in the Colfax Center cemetery, rural Holland, Iowa.

Alice Knock, daughter of George and Matilda Hinrichs, was born near Steamboat Rock, Hardin County, Iowa, November 18, 1887. She attended Pleasant Mound School and later Iowa Normal College in Cedar Falls. She taught in rural schools in Hardin and Grundy counties for four years.

She married Eilert H. Knock on February 9, 1910, and they farmed in Colfax township until 1941, after which they moved to Grundy Center.

She joined the East Friesland Presbyterian Church at the age of 15, and remained a life-long Presbyterian wherever she lived. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center 23 years.

Her husband preceded her in death August 22, 1945, and she continued to live in Grundy Center until October 1946 when she became a resident of Calvin Manor, Presbyterian Retirement Center, Des Moines. She passed away January 29, 1975 of heart failure and complications of age.

Surviving are two sons: H. Calvin, ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church, and Joseph, President of the Iowa Savings Bank of Creston, Iowa; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Anna Janssen of Ackley, besides other relatives and friends.
