Hans Syhlman Died July 23
Hans Syhlman of 501 D Avenue, Grundy Center, died Friday, July 23, 1976 at 4:55 p.m. in the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial hospital, where he had been confined since May 24.
Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Monday morning, July 26 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Rev. Jerry VanCurler officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Simms sang "Take My Hand, Precious Lord" and "When The Roll is Called Up Yonder". Mrs. Raymond Hinders was accompanist, and also played selected prelude and postlude numbers.
Pallbearers were Donald Syhlman, Gary Syhlman, Steve Syhlman, Les Muller, Rick Mast and Wendel Muller. Mrs. Joe Junker and Mrs. Matthew Loger took care of the floral arrangements. Ushers were Milf Meyer and John Paterni.
Following the committal service in the Colfax church cemetery, relatives and friends returned to the church for a period of fellowship.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He was born July 15, 1908 in Lincoln township, Grundy County, Iowa and was 68 years and 8 days of age at time of death. His parents were William and Tena Arends Syhlman. On December 14, 1938 he was united in marriage to Kate Muller at the Little Brown church, Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage they farmed in the Dike area and then farmed near Morrison 23 years. In 1966 they moved to Gladbrook where they lived 10 years retiring at that time and moving to Grundy Center on February 1, 1976.
He is survived by his wife Kate, one son James of Charles City, three grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Everts of Parkersburg, Mrs. Ella Everts of Cedar Falls, and four brothers, Vernon of Aplington, John and Alvin of Dike and Harm of Cedar Falls.
A memorial fund has been established.
