Mrs. Bernard Stahl Dies At W'loo Hospital

Mrs. Bernard (Harmka) Stahl passed away Friday evening, December 11 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo due to heart failure. She had been taken to the hospital on Monday, November 23rd for treatment. She reached the age of 76 years, 8 months and 19 days.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 15, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Pastor Jerry Van Curler was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Raymond Hinders was organist and accompanied the soloist Mrs. Tom Simms. Flower attendants were Miss Alice Ruter and Mrs. Douglas Geerdes. Pall bearers were Bruce Stahl, Marvin Stahl, Calvin Stahl, Donald Stahl, Roger Hook, and Calvin Heyenga.

The interment service was held in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Harmka was born on a farm in Palermo Township, near Grundy Center, on March 22, 1905, the daughter of Joe H. and Meemke (Meyer) Meester, and attended the rural school in the area. On February 20, 1929, she was united in marriage to Bernard H. Stahl at the Harm Stahl farm home near Grundy Center. Following their marriage they lived in Holland then in 1937 they moved to Wellsburg to make their home. This union was blessed with a son Carroll and a daughter Elaine.

Mrs. Stahl was a long-time member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church of Holland.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, 1 infant sister, and 4 sisters.

Those left to mourn her passing are: her husband, Bernard H. Stahl; one son, Carroll Stahl of Aplington; one daughter, Mrs. Dwayne (Elaine) Sents of Holland; five grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Harm (Mattie) Stahl of Grundy Center, Mrs. Harm G. (Martha) Hook of Holland, and Mrs. Esther Riekena of Wellsburg; and many other relatives and friends.
