Dena B. Meyer Died Saturday

Mrs. Dena B. Meyer, 89, died at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 1981 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 23, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center with the Rev. Thomas Harp officiating.

Mrs. Glenn R. Dieken played "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" as organ interludes, and selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Thomas Meyer, James Custer, John Meyer, John Custer, Jeff Hale, Joe Custer, Scott Hale and Duane Meyer. Ushers were George Hauser and Floyd Rouse. Mrs. Marvin DeVries and Mrs. Paul Slinker were in charge of floral arrangements. Burial was in Colfax Center Presbyterian Church cemetery, rural Holland.

Following the committal service friends and relatives returned to the church for a period of fellowship and refreshment.

Mrs. Meyer was born September 27, 1891, in Colfax Township Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Berend and Peterke Peil Boldt. She attained the age of 89 years, 3 months and 24 days. Mrs. Meyer grew up in the Holland area and taught school in Holland before and after her marriage to John A. Meyer on October 17, 1917 at her parents' home in Holland. After their marriage they farmed near Colfax Center. They ran a drug store and locker business in Holland until they moved and made their home in Grundy Center. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John on June 4, 1977, two brothers and one sister.

Those left to mourn her passing are: two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Byrna Rae) Custer of What Cheer, Iowa and Mrs. Robert (Darilyn Dee) Hale of Iowa City, Iowa; one son, William Meyer of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sisters, Freda and Cathryn Boldt at Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
