Toma Meester Services Held

Toma Meester, 87, passed away on Saturday, December 2, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 5, at 1:30 p.m. at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, with Pastor Larry C. Hoop officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Sents sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." They were accompanied by Mrs. Carolyn Stahl, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Richard Meester, Eldon Klaassen, Jake Heeren, Kenneth Meester, Henry Heeren and Raymond Meester.

Herman Akkerman and Dennis Hook were ushers. Margaret Meyer and Claradean Harrenstein were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Toma Meester, daughter of Jacob and Ella Clauson Klaassen, was born in Grundy County on January 6, 1902. She was baptized on December 30, 1902, in the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church. She grew up and was educated in the Grundy county area.

Toma was united in marriage to Henry A. Meester on September 28, 1926, at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Parkersburg. The family farmed northwest of Holland until September 1968, when they retired and moved to Holland.

She became a confessing member of the Colfax Center Church upon her public confession of faith on August 6, 1930.

Toma was preceded in death by her husband Henry; one daughter, Ella; one son, Vernon; one daughter-in-law Marlys; her parents; two brothers; two sisters; and one step-grandson, Dale.

She is survived by one son Arthur, Holland; one daughter Mrs. Mike (Harriet) Stoner, Holland; one sister, Bena Viel, Parkersburg; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
