Last Rites For Esther Rindels
Funeral services for Esther A. Rindels, who was born February 6, 1906, and entered into eternal rest July 4, 1989, were held at the First Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center, on Friday, July 7, at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Glenn R. Dieken officiated.
Musical interludes of "In The Garden" and "Amazing Grace" were rendered by Mrs. Glenn R. Dieken, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
Grandsons serving as casket bearers were Robert Rindels, Ronald Rindels, David Bruns, Bryan Scott, Darwin Shuey, Rick Rindels, Eugene Rindels, Mark Mast and Andrew Rindels.
The ushers were Floyd Rouse and George Hauser. Mrs. Ernest Blythe and Mrs. Paul Slinker were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Colfax Center Cemetery, rural Holland, IA.
Mrs. Rindels was the daughter of Adolph and Reka Franken VanDeest. She grew up on the family farm in Colfax twp. and attended Colfax #9 County school.
On January 21, 1925, she was united in marriage to Gus Rindels, Jr. at her parents' farm home by Rev. J. E. Drake.
After their marriage, they lived near Holland and then lived in Dike until they made their home in Grundy Center in 1953.
During her life, she worked in the kitchen of several restaurants in the area. She also worked in the kitchen at Beverly Manor in Grundy Center for seven years. Esther baked her "Esther Rolls" for people on a special order basis for the past 15 years.
On April 20, 1989, she entered Marshalltown Manor.
Esther was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-parents; her husband, Gus, on March 7, 1969; one infant son and two grandchildren.
Esther is survived by four sons, Eldon of Dallas, TX, Irvin of Hugoton, KS, Roger of Feeding Hills, MA, and Harold (Butch) of Solon, OH; five daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Enola) Bruns of Dike, Mrs. John (Verna Rae) Clark of Rock Island, IL, Mrs. Edwin (Caroline) Gibson of Grundy Center, Gladys Ann Korpi of Mora, MN, and Mrs. Wayne (Arlys) Mast of Marshalltown; two brothers, Alvin Stahl of Holland and Vernon Stahl of Wellsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Luella Nederhoff of Wellsburg and Mrs. Alvin (Alma) Lutterman of Holland; 27 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
